Making it Real, a writing class with Kate Vogl

Need to jumpstart your writing? Know your fiction or memoir is missing something but can’t figure out what that is? Find out the tips and techniques needed to make your writing come alive. Discover essentials for developing compelling characters and scenes. Learn how to hook readers with opening lines and how to build a powerful ending. Leave class with a clear understanding of what’s needed to complete revisions for your project. In-class writing exercises are designed to inspire. Private half-hour consult and instructor critique of up to 3500 words included.

Kate St. Vincent Vogl is the author of Lost & Found: A Memoir of Mothers, and she co-wrote Iron Horse Cowgirls as well as Lady Ref, which was featured in USA Today. Her work appears in best-selling anthologies like Why We Ride and in journals such as Prairie Schooner. Her fiction has received support from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Anderson Center. Vogl graduated from Cornell University cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, and from the Creative Writing Program at Hamline. She also teaches at the Loft Literary Center. 

The class meets once a week on Wednesdays in October from 6 – 8 pm.  October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd. The syllabus includes weekly reading assignments, discussion and writing prompts.
