Batik Bee with Julie Yost

Join us in learning this ancient fabric dyeing technique using wax resist to create colorful patterns and designs. Instructor Julie Yost has taught batik previously at Crossings, her classes are always so inspirational and fun!
If you have never tried batik and always wanted to – this workshop is for you. If you have come to our batik bees before and have projects you want to finish – this workshop is also for you!
Using fabric that has been processed ahead of time with a mordant (to make it more receptive to the dyes) we will add layers colorful dyes and melted wax to create rich colorful designs of your own or use some of the materials and examples on hand. We will have everything you need from start to finish!
Your finished batiks can be used as wall hangings, or sewn or appliquéd onto bags, jackets, pillows or quilts. Julie has made some of her batiks into prints for framing, you can see her work at Gallery 24 in Rochester, or on her Instagram page @consistentlydifferentdesigns
One day event is $80 and includes all supplies, come for two days for $140. All supplies included.
Please note! This class will be held at Everson Park, about one mile west of Zumbrota on County Rd 60, next to Land’s Church. The little park building has electricity, tables and chairs and a kitchen area. Windows are screened so we can have plenty of fresh air without bugs.
The building (and bathroom) does have running water and is very accessible to those with some limitations. Please reach out if you need any special accomodations.
Plan to bring your lunch, there is no refrigerator so perishables will need to be stored in a cooler with ice. There are also a couple of nice cafes nearby both in Zumbrota and Wanamingo.
