SUMMARY:Batik Bee with Julie Yost
DESCRIPTION:Join us in learning this ancient fabric dyeing technique using wax resist to create colorful patterns and designs. Instructor Julie Yost has taught batik previously at Crossings\, her classes are always so inspirational and fun!If you have never tried batik and always wanted to – this workshop is for you. If you have come to our batik bees before and have projects you want to finish – this workshop is also for you! \n\n\n\nUsing fabric that has been processed ahead of time with a mordant (to make it more receptive to the dyes) we will add layers colorful dyes and melted wax to create rich colorful designs of your own or use some of the materials and examples on hand. We will have everything you need from start to finish! Your finished batiks can be used as wall hangings\, or sewn or appliquéd onto bags\, jackets\, pillows or quilts. Julie has made some of her batiks into prints for framing\, you can see her work at Gallery 24 in Rochester\, or on her Instagram page @consistentlydifferentdesigns \n\n\n\nOne day event is $80 and includes all supplies\, come for two days for $140. All supplies included. \n\n\n\n\nPlease note! This class will be held at Everson Park\, about one mile west of Zumbrota on County Rd 60\, next to Land’s Church. The little park building has electricity\, tables and chairs and a kitchen area. Windows are screened so we can have plenty of fresh air without bugs.The building (and bathroom) does have running water and is very accessible to those with some limitations. Please reach out if you need any special accomodations. \n\n\n\nPlan to bring your lunch\, there is no refrigerator so perishables will need to be stored in a cooler with ice. There are also a couple of nice cafes nearby both in Zumbrota and Wanamingo. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDiscount offered for those who have taken Julie’s Batik workshops at Crossings in the past\, as this is a great opportunity to finish projects and continue with fresh ideas! SUMMARY:August Intro to the Wheel with Polly Noll
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the lower level clay studio for a fun night on the pottery wheel. Whether you have had some experience on the wheel or never tried it – this class is for you! \n\n\n\nWe’ll will guide you in the process of creating 1 – 2 pieces\, you’ll select the glaze you like and we will trim and fire them for you and have them ready for pick-up in 2 – 3 weeks.  \n\n\n\nWe’re so fortunate to have Polly Noll in the clay studio\, with over 20 years of experience and a patient\, fun attitude\, you’ll be in good hands to have success of the wheel. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMore about Polly here \n\n\n\nWear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy\, make sure you put your hair up\, remove jewelry\, rings or watches and trim fingernails. We will have a few aprons and plenty of towels for clean-up. Extra pieces (more than 2 each) are $4 each.Feel free to bring a friend\, bring a beverage of your choice and let’s have fun!Please note – use the red door on the north side of the building\, on West 3rd street.

So invite your crafting buddies or come on your own and get creative with your neighbors! No experience necessary. \n\n\n\nIncluded is up to four plates each\, finished pieces will be fired in the kiln and clear glazed\, ready for pick up in about 3 weeks. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have letter stamps and plenty of ideas for painting your plates however you like!

DESCRIPTION:Join us in the lower level clay studio\, for four weeks of immersion into wheel thrown pottery. With hands on learning and guidance from our instructor Brooke\, you will gain confidence in centering\, pulling a wall\, trimming and finishing your pots.  \n\n\n\nYou will learn the fundamentals of ceramic arts from wedging to glazing. We’re so happy to have Brooke\, she brings her joyful spirit and patient teaching style to ensure your success! \n\n\n\nYou’ll build new skills and have fun in our community studio where everyone is welcome! \n\n\n\n\nCups by MadAboutPottery \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll supplies included for your success\, including a personal shelf space. During the class we will also have open studio times available for an additional fee of $20/ session\, (a special guest pass rate for anyone in the class).
